The Harbord Room is an international restaurant disguised as a bistro. The menu bounces from Europe (burrata) to Latin America (tacos) to Asia (bok choy). On one visit, the gnocchi with duck confit are lighter than a Justin Bieber lyric and richer than Carlos Slim. Topped with pine nuts, maple syrup and a touch of ricotta, the dish could float away with its diners. With such flawless apps, it’s strange that the mains are so disappointing. How can the kitchen that produced a panko-crusted, Maldon-dusted, deep-fried poached egg that oozes at the touch of a fork also serve overcooked fish? Dessert redeems: a crispy doughnut filled with lime curd, served with coconut ice cream and caramelized pineapple. Service is personable. Mains $15–$29.
