The smart hotel café–style room—safely done up in cream, beige and dark brown—attracts an early crowd of casually dressed families and boomers tucking into equally casual dishes. Despite the non-descript decor and the Keg-like uniforms on the servers, it isn’t some corporate chain—it’s a family affair. Drew Brown runs the front of house, while his son, Kevin, crafts unpretentious and well-made classics. The caesar salad—with pancetta, parmigiano-reggiano-topped crouton and anchovy-spiked dressing—far exceeds the roadhouse standard. A generous dish of crispy-skinned orata (sea bream) is piled high on buttery pan-fried gnocchi, with warm tomato vinaigrette, poached egg and seasonal veggies—one night it was tender-crisp heirloom beets, carrots, asparagus, baby bok choy and artichoke hearts. An eight-ounce AAA tenderloin is perfectly rare and meltingly tender. Decent wine list; great service. Mains $15–$29.
