Scott and Rachelle Vivian’s quiet neighbourhood bistro practises the kind of marketdriven, locally inspired, meat-focused cooking that defines many of the city’s best restaurants. A salad of roasted cauliflower with pickled peppers, pine nuts and mint benefits from gentle seasoning, but the seared scallops with braised rabbit and Israeli couscous could use more oomph. A similar surfeit of flavour prevents the Cumbrae’s beef strip loin from achieving its full potential. Delicious house-made ice cream comes in unconventional flavours, like anise hyssop and coconut chili. Small plates $10–$18.
