On a grim stretch of China-town East, this bistro sticks out like Gérard Depardieu’s nose. The dodgy location, however, draws in those who crave elegance beyond that offered by nearby pho joints. Chef-owner Jean-Jacques Texier delivers his signature spin on traditional Gallic fare and offers tremendous value. Tender snails are cooked in Texier’s father’s secret sauce: tomato, green onion, cream and a beguiling dash of je ne sais quoi. It’s an absolute bowl licker. Crêpes rule the dessert card, most notably a terrific trio glazed simply with sharp lemon, rich butter and sweet sugar. The all-French wine list shows remarkable depth for a 40-seat restaurant. Mains $18—$24.
