The walls are hung with dorm room–style posters of Miles Davis and John Coltrane, and the long banquette is well worn, but at this College Street meat mecca, the only decor accents that count are the two bottles of Phil Nyman’s house-made barbecue sauce that adorn each tabletop. Both excellent sauces are thick and savoury in the Kansas City style. A generous pulled-pork platter is the best thing to order. The meat is tender and tangy. Other dishes are hit-and-miss. Ribs are cooked to perfection, but the portion is on the small side. The sides dazzle: cachapas, Venezuelan sweet corn pancakes, are extraordinary for sopping up the sauce.
