Driven by our insatiable appetite for the all-beef patty, this gourmet fast food joint opened a third location, this time at King and Yonge. It’s the handsomest of the three—a bright, airy dining room that buzzes with worker bees during the lunch hour rush. But not all Craft burgers are created equal. The new financial district location only cooks its meat well done, following Heath Canada regulations. Made from AAA ground chuck, the patties are properly seasoned and requisitely beefy, but too dry to be truly satisfying. The lamb burger suffers from a prolonged sojourn on the grill: dry and grey, its flavour is masked by a robust cilantro-feta spread. The Yonge and Bloor outlet redeems: explosively juicy burgers—even when cooked medium-well—require two hands and six napkins. Pre-dressed combos are well balanced, including the Big Smoke, which comes with soft caramelized onions, smoked cheddar and punchy horseradish mayo. The fries are also better—fresh, sweet and addictively crispy. Even the Boylan sodas are kept colder. There are only five subway stops between the sister restaurants, but they’re a world apart. Unlicensed.
