Amadeus

Toronto has a bad habit of demolishing its older, splendidly seedy bars, so it’s a pleasant surprise that this Kensington Market fave endures. In the 1970s, it was called the Lisbon Plate, which should give some indication of its cultural leanings. (The codfish shish kebab garners raves.) But Amadeu’s is all about the patio, which is plastic chairs—and—draft beer territory. Peopled as it is with Kensington characters and outfitted with a clear view of Augusta, it’s largely about the moving scenery.
