Cottage of the Week: $4 million for a two-cottage compound on Little Lake Joseph

ADDRESS: 75 Old Portage Road

NEIGHBOURHOOD: Rosseau, Ontario

AGENT: Jamie Blair and Tom McDonald, Chestnut Park Real Estate Ltd., Brokerage and Richard Scully, Harvey Kalles Real Estate Ltd., Brokerage

PRICE: $3,995,000

THE PLACE: Situated on Little Lake Joseph, this Muskoka compound includes two individual cottages and a bunkhouse on the property.

BRAGGING RIGHTS: The cottage has the same rustic elegance as an ad for Ralph Lauren Home—the handy work of Lisa Stevens, head of Lisa Stevens and Co., a Distillery District interior design firm.

BIG SELLING POINT: The compound is made for a large family to share, with seven bedrooms split over three separate sleeping areas.

POSSIBLE DEAL BREAKER: If you and your siblings are the type to squabble over splitting the check, going in on a multimillion-dollar property is probably not in your best interests.

BY THE NUMBERS:
$3,995,000
$20,519 in 2010 taxes
728 feet of shoreline
7 total bedrooms

    Meh.

My boyfriend’s family cottage looks just like this.
But it cost a fraction of this price.
Also, the commute is 2 hrs on open country road, not parked on the 400.

Way to go @Anna, I hope you are blowing him on the way up

When you take into consideration what you’re getting, two cottages, 5.5 acres, boathouse and 728 feet of water frontage it’s really not a bad price for the Muskoka’s. Not saying that that’s what it should cost to enjoy cottage life but it’s not a bad package.
Muskoka’s are great but I’ll stay in the Kawartha’s.
