NDP holds on to Jack Layton’s former seat (despite all of Justin Trudeau’s efforts)

Not even Justin Trudeau’s impassioned video plea for the Liberals could stop the NDP from cruising to an easy win in Toronto-Danforth. NDP candidate Craig Scott won a federal by-election last night for Jack Layton’s former seat, netting nearly 60 per cent of the vote, which is almost as good as Layton’s result in the 2011 election. That’s encouraging news for a party looking to honour the legacy of its late leader (though whether that’s a good thing is a matter of opinion). With the by-election settled, party members can now move on to choosing a new leader this Saturday—a race that may be just as predictable. Read the entire story [National Post]»
