Four Weddings Canada, episode 13: a silly theme and a Debbie Downer

Victoria, Marivic, Carolyn and Fallon (Image: Four Weddings Canada)

Four Weddings Canada, Episode 13

Here’s the thing: every bride is going to walk away from her special day happy, unless she’s completely psycho and torches the place or cries and rips her hair out in front of her guests. Sadly, neither happen on this week’s episode of Four Weddings Canada—but we do meet bride Marivic, who consistently shares with us how unhappy she is with the other brides’ efforts. She’s quite possibly the most insufferable bride to date. Disclaimer: we’re going to spend most of this recap telling you how much of a downer she is, because the show is dominated by her bad attitude. (Of course, we’ll tell you about brides Victoria, Carolyn and Fallon, too.)

Victoria, age 26 (Budget: $22,000)
Victoria’s a bit sullen, but we imagine she portrayed herself in this manner because she’s representing herself as some sort of goth-type. She’s a little rude, considering she can’t choke down Marivic’s sorbet and audibly makes a vomiting sound to prove to the cameras and everyone around her that she doesn’t like it. She’s also a little lazy, since she complains about having to “investigate” Carolyn’s buffet on her own, which she’s none too pleased with.

Marivic, 35 (Budget: $25,000)
Somehow her slimy-looking beef, Guyanese-meets-Filipino dinner (sushi, pad thai, beef and cherry sorbet), airport chapel-looking venue and incomprehensible “musical cherry blossoms” theme are good enough for her, yet the other brides’ choices merit constant complaints. She’s afraid of fire, and complains about how during Victoria’s fire dance she’s “on the edge the entire time.” She finds Fallon’s sister’s lovely gesture of performing a Tahitian dance to be distracting (come on!), and she cries about being uncomfortable at Carolyn’s pre-reception. She even has a problem with the structure of Carolyn’s wedding, griping about not understanding everyone’s roles (they are people, they walk down an aisle and they get married—relax, okay?). Also, for anyone planning to change their clothing at any time in a given day, Marivic would like you to know that it completely disrupts the mood, and she will not be pleased. Attention Four Weddings Canada fans: someone has made Holly look good!HIGH

Carolyn, age 31 (Budget: $20,000)
We’re under the impression that Carolyn has never had better sushi before Marivic’s cocktail hour, because she’s basically drooling from the mouth, saying the sushi “rocked [her] world.” And really, who can blame her? Sushi is great. Apart from that, she has pizza delivered by the hour to her reception, which we can totally get behind, and we’re giving her the award for hottest husband on Four Weddings Canada, because, seriously, wee-ow!

Fallon, age 26 (Budget: $40,000)
Fallon is pegged as the Charlotte York or Monica Gellar of this episode from the get-go. But her obsessive attention to detail (she spent 18 months planning her wedding) doesn’t borderline on unhinged, which would make her more exciting—yet, is likely for the best. She’s relatively courteous, and, for some reason, felt the need to tell us she “really [loves] the bite of balsamic dressing.” Um, sure.

This week’s Head Bitch in Ceremony is Marivic. Duh.
(Oh, and Victoria wins the honeymoon.)
  • Victoria

First off, its all in the editing… I wasnt actually making the face at the sorbet but the piece of fruit on the side of the dish. No one knew what it was and I volunteered to eat it! And second, Im not sullen… its late and Im drunk!!! These girls are amazing and no matter how many great things we may had said about each others weddings at the end of the day its up to editors :-)

  • no name tonight

Not a great way to end the season. Amazing how many brides were (or claimed to be) drunk, while attending the weddings.Makes you wonder about some of the participants, regardless of this being “reality” television.
Great to see that you have not forgotten Holly. She was on Episode “8″, and she put on quite a display. Was she “acting” the part, or was that really her! The four brides on episode “8″ combined to present the best show this season; four different themes and all were edited, for viewing, very well. This was the most commented edition of the season.
Remember, we only get to see about ten minutes, out of a whole day
Looking forward to a vast improvement next season.

  • Bride of the Past Shows

YAY!! EPISODE 8 – HOLLY DID ROCK!!!
How can you forget those 4 brides!!!
The show has just gone down hill …. so lame!

  • Holly

yay go me LOL Im hard to forget :P

  • The other Drunk Bride

Hey, nothing wrong with having a drink when you are getting a paid ride home ;) Enjoy

  • Die Hard FWC fan

    HANDS DOWN BEST EPISODE!

    WHY?

Watch it again peeps. So much they said was so nice! Fallon and Victoria – class all the way. Sure there were a few remarks here and there, but they were great/ solid competitors.

I mean, c’mon! Fallon scored Carolyn a 9.5 on her dress????? Would anyone else have been that generous?

    LOVED IT! GREAT FINALE!

But if the scoring had been like the US I think Fallon would have/ should have won. Sorry Victoria. Your gorgeous and all, but Fallon’s wedding lookd incredable.

    CONGRATS! =D

  • Annoyed

    I am so F@CKING annoyed!

All of the brides were so hypocrital when it came to the last wedding.

Bride Victoria: I like candelight = more romantic, flowers just die! And its wasteful (When it comes to the last wedding – she’s bitchin about Fallons lack of decor and how she opted for candels as her centerpieces?)

Bride Carolyn: Doesn’t care enough about her own dress to learn what the style is or to even try on more than one – or get it altared to fit her body, but shes going to bitch about Fallon changing and now ‘wearing her dress out’ on her wedding night? F@CK people – it’s her day and her choice to change if she wants to! And she should not have a single thing to say when it comes to food – you served PIZZA for F@CKSAKE! To call Fallon’s meidicore? REALLY?

Bride Marivic: She was just plain horrible at all weddings. Some of the wrost comments I’ve ever heard on this show. Aweful. She should be ashamed of herself. If you have to be a bitch to try and win – is it worth it? FOr ONECE I think Kevin is awesome for calling this girl out on her crap.

I agree diehard FWC fan – FAllon should have won. She was a gaert judge and GORGE bride! I would love to know where her wedding was held. Food and venue was breathtaking. Esp the view! OMFG!

  • NS

Fallon’s wedding was at the Park Hyatt in Toronto – and it was truly lovely.

  • Aunt Marj

I attended the wedding of Carolyn & Steve. It was fun! The pizza & the buffet plus nutty buddies for dessert were terrific! Family & friends mingled & all had a great time. Carolyn & Steve had a wedding that they planned & were happy with.Isn’t that the way it should be? Everybody there was happy for them. I’ve been to a lot of weddings in my day & it was refreshing to see a couple that love each other have the “do” that they wanted. I think that they should have won hands down, no question. Also I think that Carolyn’s Mother would be proud of her daughter for not being so outspoken as the other brides. They were disgusting, their remarks were petty. Bravo C&S!!!

  • Annoyed

I think you’re biased, Aunt Marj. Yes it’s great they had what they wanted. But in contrast to what they were up against (Pizza aside) they didn’t think of their guests. Crammed into a small room with not enough tables/ seating for everyone is ridiculous. How can you expect half your guest count to stand up all night long? Drinks and food in hand? With no where to move about. Way too congested a space for such a large wedding. she should ahve slashed her numbers if she had her heart set so badly on that venue. And your beleoved niece did have her petty moments as well.FWC needs to change the scoring system so brides who deserve to win (fallon!) win. Period. nuff said.

  • Annoyed

BTW (NS) looked up the Hyatt. 1) Yorkville! Damn. Explains the pricetag cuz that had me scratching my head for a sec.
    2)
    HOLY SHIT PEOPLE! GORGE!!! =P

  • no name tonight

After reviewing all of the thirteen episodes, and the comments about them, Episode 8 is the best one of the season. Four different venues and different brides. They all appear to be enjoying each others “BIG” day, and that is the way that it is supposed to be.
Suck it up, all of you critical buttercups: it is only a show.
Have a great summer. Wash out your mouths with soap and you will be ready for next season.

  • mj

First off let me start with stating that calling any bride a Bitch is so classless. Those women are mothers and don’t deserve this. They have enough courage to appear on this show to share their days and compete for a honeymoon. I understand that there is a villan on everyshow but really??? Calling Marivic out like that all the others were equally critical I feel bad for her.

Everything on the show it taken out of context leave it up to editing…Reality tv

It was a competition and I agree they were great competitors and it was a great show.

  • Annoyed

No name – ep 8 only has a looooooooot of comments bcuz people were bickering back and forth. Not cuz it was anything special. Each ep had their highs and lows, I just think your wrong in your assessment that ep 8 was the best of them all.

MJ – sure there is editing at play, but she said what she said, as did the rest, and she should deal with the results. I am sure shs not a bitch (normally) but she sure had some clasw during this show. More so than the rest. That can’t all be editing. The only ones who know for sure would be the other ones who were cast with her.

  • T-HEE

Marivic IS a bitch, plain, simple and undeniable – you just CAN’T make that up. To make remarks and complain about all the other bride’s weddings was just rude and distasteful. I know there is alot of editing done but they don’t put words in your mouth. If you say something nasty then they have the right to use it. If any of the other brides said anything mean then I am certain it would have been shown as well (after all it’s meant to make you watch). In my opinion, her mother looked like a lounge singer in her mermaid dress (very tacky and not “mother of the bride” at all). Fallon and Victoria were the best this episode.

  • 4weddingswatcher

In every show they need a villain. Marivic was not a bitch she was opinionated and blunt. No more then Victoria who spits out food at a table. And Carolyn calling Marivic’s venue run of the mill when she serves pizza at her wedding? Really people? And TEE-HEE really how classy are u talking about someone’s mother? Good on her mother being able to rock a dress like that. This espisode had no bitches and I have watched them all, this one was pretty tame. The girls were well spoken and competive Marivic was the eldest and straight to the point I don’t think anybody was really out there and if I had a bitch o meter it would put Carolyn there first

  • 4weddingswatcher

Every episode has a villain. Marivic was no more than a bitch than any other of the brides Victoria spitting out food at the dinner table and Carolyn saying that Marivic’s venue is run of the mill when she serves pizza at her wedding? Get real… I’ve watched all four weddings episodes and these ladies were pretty tame. Marivic was straight and blunt but was not a bitch none of them were. And TEE-HEE I think you are the bigger bitch for insulting the poor girls mother she looked great you probably couldn’t pull off the look on your best day!!!

  • Thea

Victoria your dress was amazing! May I ask who the designer was? Thanks.

  • Julie Ryan

Hi Victoria, I noticed on the show that you had a tattoo behind your ear. May I ask what it is? I looked awesome. Thank you!
