Microsoft takes over Dundas Square for Kinect launch; will gamers pay more to look sillier?

More than a year ago, Microsoft announced something called Project Natal. It was an idea that promised to be the next big thing in video games and home entertainment, allowing people to control their games and movies with voice commands and gestures. Everyone paid attention; the implications for porn alone were huge. Yesterday, Microsoft took over Dundas Square for the launch of Natal, since renamed Kinect, and the reviews so far are pretty mixed. The consensus is that there’s a lot of promise, but a) there are still some bugs, and b) no one’s made a killer program for it yet. (Sound familiar?)

Guitar Hero goes prog with Rush’s 2112

Many prog rock enthusiasts will agree there’s nary a better tune to show off simulated musical ability than “Tom Sawyer,” so we’re not surprised the makers of Guitar Hero took cues from Rock Band and got Rush on board for its upcoming game. Activision has announced the rock god collective of Geddy Lee, Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson will bring their iconic 2112 suite—yes, the whole thing—to Warriors of Rock, on sale in September.

New Canadian Monopoly unveiled, Toronto relegated to light blue

Toronto real estate may be red hot, but in the fictitious marketplace of the classic board game Monopoly, Toronto is about as valuable as a four-bedroom house next to a GM factory in Detroit. The new Canadian edition of Monopoly (on sale June 28) was unveiled this morning, and Toronto’s place on the board is in the lowly light blues, the home of Vermont Avenue in the original version.
