This long-standing midtown institution is almost anachronistic in its refinement—the service is polished and attentive, and Keith Froggett’s luxe menu showcases superb technique without a lick of showiness. A squab special brings a confit leg that’s almost too cute to eat and juicy bacon-wrapped breast stuffed with foie gras and wild mushrooms. It’s beautifully plated with peas, leeks, toasted farro and dabs of sticky and addictive squab jus—all this for an appetizer, no less. Sometimes, however, the mains are too polite. The eight components in a fresh partridge course (including roasted breast, confit leg and seared foie gras) are all impeccable in their own right, but the flavours don’t cohere into a complete dish. Desserts, like Valhrona chocolate mousse with Earl Grey ice cream and lemon curd, are thoughtful, though regulars still opt for the signature coconut cream pie.

Recently, my husband and I enjoyed our first dining experience @ Scaramouche. We were greeted by young men that at once took our car so parking was NOT an issue. Inside the restaurant, we were warmly greeted once again and were taken to a table which highlighted the view but we were not front and centre. My husband asked to be moved to a perfect spot and our request was granted! The view of the city was spectacular. Our service throughout the entire evening was second to none and the evening was topped off by my birthday coconut cream pie presented with a birthday greeting written beautifully around the plate. Our waitresses were awesome and when we left, our car was retrieved (we gave a reasonable tip which was not expected but much appreciated!)
