A cheery hive of a room with 18-foot ceilings, red and yellow walls and an unimpeded view of the brew tanks, the Distillery District destination is the public face of Toronto’s most famous brewery. It offers all the classic Mill Street beers—such as Balzac’s Coffee Porter and Tankhouse Ale—plus some fruity martinis (peach cosmo, candy apple) and a long list of single malts for the beer-averse. An attractive but relaxed crowd, mostly sporting jeans, rugger shirts and baseball caps, floods out onto two huge patios in summer and huddles in wooden booths in winter. The pre-Soulpepper dining rush can make for annoyingly long waits.
