Arniston Bay 2006 Shiraz Merlot

An unusual grape combo, with the merlot intended to streamline the dense shiraz, and it works—to a point. A bit lighter and more high strung than most other reds in the section, with nicely lifted, fragrant, currant-raspberry jam fruit, smoked meat and burnt toast aromas. Medium weight, with a juicy, sweetish, tart middle and a fairly tannic, green finish. Drinkable now, though a year in the bottle might make for smoother sipping. LCBO 43927
