Hanoi 3 Seasons

Reviewed by Toronto LifeIt aims slightly higher in terms of ambience and quality than its East Chinatown neighbours, but Hanoi 3’s illusions of refinement quickly crumble when a server saunters out of the kitchen in shorts and flip-flops. The menu of northern Vietnamese cuisine offers some unique discoveries, such as hen, a tasty hash of clams spiced with chili, turmeric and lemon grass served on black sesame crackers. Lotus root and carrot salad with steamed shrimp has a coriander hit and a good balance of textures. Diners disinclined to stray from staples like pho and spring rolls needn’t worry: rice noodles topped with perfectly fried but bland grouper offers a safe way to experiment. Fresh fruit shakes, like delightful soursop, highlight limited sweet options.
