Reviewed by Toronto LifeSandwiched between Moss and Regent parks on a stretch of Parliament Street that many Torontonians would be nervous to walk at night, this genuine hole in the wall dishes up some of the best Thai food in the city. The five tables fill up early, even on a Monday evening, and the queue for takeout is constant. Spring rolls are pitch perfect: tightly rolled, greaseless and packed with slippery glass noodles and earthy mushrooms. Tom yum, a classic starter, floats two colossal juicy shrimp in an aromatic broth that’s sweet with palm sugar, sour with lime, fragrant with herbs and detonated with chili. It’s a head rush of a soup. Thinly sliced beef and fat cubes of buttercup squash star in an impeccably balanced red curry perfumed with kaffir lime and sweet basil. Even the shrimp chips are a cut above: addictively crunchy and pungent, served with a sticky tamarind dip. Even with a full house and the takeout orders piling up, service remains friendly and efficient. Unlicensed.
