Half the fun of dinner at Salad King is the eavesdropping. Most of the diners lining the long communal tables are Ryerson students, which means overheard conversations are like trips back in time to caffeine-fuelled final exams and wine cooler–fuelled weekends. A staple for a reason, spring rolls arrive piping hot and crispy. Curries delight, though meat and veggie dishes are a bit dull. Most popular is the pad Thai; though gummy, it has that tamarind tang and could almost pass for the street noodles of Bangkok
