Argentines are a gregarious bunch, and owners Christina and Enriqué Barenbaum are no exception. By the end of our meal, we’ve heard about their immigration to Canada 36 years ago (“I thought I was coming for two months,” she says), our hostess’s opinion of my date (“He doesn’t say much, but he has nice eyes”) and the house recipe for chimichurri. The Dufferin and Eglinton location hasn’t stopped it from becoming a hotbed of revelry every Saturday, when live Spanish music fills the place. Be sure to reserve if you want to eat (and you should) before you dance. The food is bountiful and fresh, and in a room adorned with pictures of gaucho cowboys, you know mains are all about meat. Parilla para uno is a mixed grill for one that could feed three: served on a hot plate, there are soft sweetbreads and a rather tough scored kidney, a sizable piece of juicy brisket, two finger-licking beef ribs, a spicy pork or beef sausage, and mildly sweet, creamy morcilla blood sausage. A dessert menu rich in such treats as crêpes with dulce de leche makes up for a scant wine list.
