The sprawling hodgepodge—faux stained glass, tapestry-draped walls and picnic-style tables—is delightfully unpretentious, as is the homestyle Iranian fare, which presents some dishes not often seen elsewhere in the city. Accompanied by warm naan the size of a dinner plate, the appetizer platter includes smooth baba ghanouj enriched with goat cheese yogurt, creamy potato salad, cuke-spiked yogurt and a refreshing mix of minced tomato, cucumber and onion. From the grill, mildly spiced ground beef kebabs trump dryish veal tenderloin and Cornish hen. Dizi is a good news/bad news proposition: a forgettable, bland mash of romano beans, potato, chickpea and shredded lamb is outdone by a bowl of the meat’s mouth-watering, tomato-jazzed cooking juice—perfect for sponging up with more naan. Rosewater-strong baklava and syrup-soaked pastries provide an authentic finish. Servers are as sweet as the pastries, but lack focus. Mains $9–$18.
