Long before the small-plates trend came and went, this casual midtown spot was serving traditional Middle Eastern mezzes. The room could use a millennial update, but with a congenial atmosphere and low prices, this is still a neighbourhood favourite. The food is satisfying, but the choices (there are 40 on the menu) aren’t exactly inventive. Grape leaves stuffed in-house with beef and rice are soft, with a vinegar tang. Eggplant dishes fare well: a Sultan’s Stew of grilled aubergine, zucchini, tomato, green pepper and onion has depth of flavour, despite its unappealing name. Wines and beers are decently priced.
