With its massive stained-glass windows and walls lined with dusty law books, this is one of the most fascinating lunchrooms in town. It’s run by the Law Society of Upper Canada, and while attire ranges from jeans to business suits, many patrons appear in formal court attire of black robes and tabbed white collars. Chef Adam Foley, former chef at the Rosewater Supper Club, offers a menu of carefully prepared bistro lunches. Frittata with melting gruyère, seared oyster mushrooms and roasted peppers needs salt but is fluffy and nicely browned. An open-faced beef sandwich features a hearty combination of parmesan and sautéed portobellos in dense calabrese. A small wine list offers excellent value. Reservations are a must. Mains $12–$20.
