Editorial Review

Two communal tables, flashy red tiles behind the bar, and a flat screen silently showing a black and white Italian movie give this bright little room the feel of a stylin’ Euro café. Takeout business is brisk, with a line of fashionable professionals ogling the many sandwiches, wraps, frittatas, salads and sweets on display. Of the panini, the Luco (with well-done sirloin, tomato, havarti and avocado aïoli on a whole wheat bun) arrives too cold, too soon and too bland—a victim of premature grill ejection. Soup of the day, pasta e fagioli, is an example of what can be achieved when ingredients are simple and fresh. Desserts—perhaps an idiosyncratic grilled apple-cinnamon pita filled with mascarpone and jam—are best enjoyed with a cup of stellar Illy coffee. Service is friendly.
