Aunties and Uncles

Reviewed by Toronto LifeHungover U of T grad students, some still in pyjama pants, drink good coffee at Formica tables in a room cluttered with all manner of vintage gimcrackery: old-school Vespa posters, toy train boxcars, and Neilson milk ads from the ’70s. Efficient but somewhat blasé servers deliver excellent challah French toast with just the right level of eggy batter saturation and a side of poached Asian pears. Warm focaccia breakfast pockets are stuffed with soft scrambled eggs, thick tomato slices, caramelized onions, gooey cheddar and peameal. Though the menu almost never changes (there would be riots if they ever messed with the perfect potato salad), the kitchen experiments with daily soups and creative omelettes, making this the best brunch spot on College.
