Editorial Review

Small, colourful and lined with requisite sombreros, this authentic Mexican joint delivers classic Mex (sans Tex) to the tune of Mexican satellite TV. Tortillas (the test of any good Mexican restaurant) are warm and fresh, with the chewy consistency of authentic corn chips. Nopales, a marinated salad of sliced cactus, jalapeño, pico de gallo and crumbled cheese, is cool and crunchy, with a texture between cucumbers and green peppers. Tacos al pastor consists of four tortillas loaded with cubes of somewhat dry chili-spiced pork, cilantro, pineapple and diced onions. Accompanied by the cool heat of green and red salsas and a squirt of fresh lime, they disappear in three bites. The highlight is the small main of tinga: chicken breast stewed in a smoky chipotle sauce that builds heat with each bite of sweet, caramelized shredded meat. Cap it off with a slice of walnut-topped flan so dense it could be vanilla cheesecake. Friendly service.
