Editorial Review

In the heart of the pizza-and-pasta war zone on College, Vivoli prospers on Italian standards made with fresh ingredients, irreverent but snappy service and big screens tuned to soccer. Perfectly timed, garlicky grilled calamari on balsamic-dressed mesclun is flawless, but a standard caprese salad is bland. Chicken-mushroom risotto is fine but better with a little more parmesan. Similarly, extra mozzarella adds heft to a good puttanesca. Nothing could improve the tiramisù, though, which so seldom lives up to its promise. This one is creamy, just-sweet-enough and so light it could only be house-made. More indulgent sweet tooths should opt for the dulce de leche cheesecake. Mains $10–$27.
