Vinny’s Panini $30 Gourmet [?]

Reviewed by Toronto LifeSimple sandwiches are the only meal on offer at this tiny, bric-a-brac–decorated shop on the north cusp of the Annex, and regulars—soccer fans and sprightly business professionals—line up for them. The exceedingly tender veal, Vinny’s crown jewel, is shaved thin, breaded, and layered four times over. A chicken version can also be breaded or grilled and is best ordered with a thick slice of mozzarella. The meatball, a sloppy joe–style sandwich, is served screamingly hot and uncut. It’s the messiest of the bunch, but worth every bread-sodden bite. All sandwiches are plumped with tomato sauce and sautéed peppers. The vegetarian option is fantastic, with mushrooms, onions and cheese, and eggplant is also available most of the time. Orders can be backed up to 30-minute wait times, so lunchtime diners would do well to call ahead. Domestic beers, grappa and Brio help wash down the sammies.
