Kitschy frescoes and spiralling filigree give this Italian colossus by the 427 a boisterous mood. Signs of the “more is better” ethos abound, like the wine list to end all wine lists—a budget-busting chronicle of Toronto’s biggest (and best) cellar. However, quantity is often matched by impeccable quality on chef Lino Collevecchio’s meat-heavy menu, which waxes poetic on the platinum-grade beef. And while the rib-eye is decent, the accompanying rib is dry and tough. Undercooked farmed salmon follows suit, but its magnificent leek and cilantro risotto testifies to the kitchen’s fluency with Italian fundamentals. Smooth service. Mains $18–$45.
