The narrow room is lined with unadorned wooden tables and opens up onto a comfortable back patio. It may not look like much, but 30‑somethings flock here, perhaps because the restaurant’s priorities have been carefully considered. Real value can be found in the small, international wine list and in the popular $24 three-course prix fixe (Sunday through Wednesday). How-ever, the dishes coming out of the open kitchen lack the finishing touches that would pull them together. Tangy and lightweight asparagus-stilton soup shows what the kitchen can do. Over-salting is a problem for mains, marring the otherwise perfect fries that accompany an undercooked sirloin steak. Lamb shank is served over a silky squash, tarragon and mascarpone risotto. Flourless chocolate cake is more a sticky pâté. Polished service. Mains $16–$24.
