Despite having many pots on the stove these days—a cookbook, television appearances and Sopra, his supper lounge upstairs—chef-co-owner Massimo Capra remains a jolly presence at his flagship restaurant, greeting regulars with his 1,000-watt smile. Capra’s northern Italian menu features superlative pasta: moist chunks of lobster fortify handmade spaghetti bathed in a tomato-leek sauce zinged with fresh chili and ginger. It’s a first-round knockout. The succulence of slow-cooked rabbit is amplified by a generous basting in the reduced braising juices. The Cal-Ital cellar has plenty of posh reds but could use more bottles in the two-digit range. Service is thoroughly professional. Mains $32–$54.
