Locals stop by this casually pleasant restaurant, decorated with art deco coffee posters and photos of Italian and Canadian athletes, for homemade minestrone, veal, pastas, pizza and “Dave’s famous calzone.” Virtually everything is made on the premises, including the tomato sauce. Pizza fiends can create their own pies, experimenting with such gourmet toppings as pesto, tuna and zucchini, or settle for classic assemblies that include veggie, meat lover, deluxe and Greek options. Thursdays feature Dave’s successful open-mike night, while most Fridays (and the occasional Saturday) feature live jazz, country and rock music. Mains $5–$25.
