Reviewed by Toronto LifeSure, the no-reservations policy is a bit of a drag, but servers are so nice they’ll call waiting diners who head off for a drink at one of the many watering holes on the Ossington strip. Once inside, the brick-lined, yuppie-packed room is a bit bland, but it doesn’t matter: Tom Thai’s long, evolving menu of small fusion plates includes some stunning creations. A pile of shrimp arrive fried to crispy perfection and generously zinged with garlic and jalapeño. A roasted tea-smoked pork belly dish is too fatty, but all is forgiven with the arrival of delightfully soft-on-the-inside, crunchy-on-the-outside lamb and duck prosciutto dumplings. An affordable, international wine list offers 18 by the glass and bottles well chosen to match the food. Mains $8–$22.
