Brown leather banquettes, an off-white tin ceiling and a chandelier provide decor, and a large side patio and display cases brimming with fresh pastries provide bustle at this busy neighbourhood café. Lunch offerings include sandwiches (such as Szechuan chicken on a baguette), salads and a selection of hot dishes (coq au vin and quiche lorraine among them). But desserts (gâteau basque, torte allemande) are the real draw. Everything here is made in-house (except for the bread and bagels), and a wide selection of specialty coffees and teas are available for those looking for a comfort drink. Mains $6.50–$13.
