This generically handsome restaurant wears its fresh, local and sustainable badge casually, more as a matter of course than a mark of honour. We applaud the kitchen’s ethics and the cellar’s dedication to fairly priced Ontario wines, but uneven cooking keeps things just this side of greatness. Such satisfying plates
as a lightly smoked, tandoori spiced Cedar Crest trout with sweet-and-sour onions and herb cream cheese are offset by amateurish dishes, like an overdressed brussels sprout salad with roasted garlic and sage-spiked croutons. Efficient service and a giant slice of homemade carrot cake almost compensate for inconsistency in the kitchen. Mains $17–$31.
