Reviewed by Toronto LifeThe young clientele, like the staff, match the chic, candlelit subterranean room. Executive chef Trevor Wilkinson has created a deeply comforting, hedonistic (an entire section dedicated to foie gras) menu with broad appeal. Execution doesn’t always live up to the description, though. Dungeness crab salad with cornbread pain perdu and tomato jam sounds luscious but tastes more like a tuna sandwich. Roast chicken with cheddar and ham hock pierogies sounds hearty but has been deconstructed to the point of absurdity and over-salted—still, the brussels sprouts with beurre noisette and speck are beautifully cooked. Hearty desserts make good use of chocolate, peanut butter, caramel and doughnuts. Mains $25–$39.
