The third iteration of the popular Le Gourmand café (LG3 to locals) fills a spiffy modern space at the foot of a new condo tower. By night, candles appear as the store morphs into a restaurant. Drawing on Japanese, Italian and molecular notions, the kitchen brims with ambitious ideas but is sometimes felled by basics. A crabmeat and leek risotto with lobster nage and crab foam has flavour to spare, but the rice is overcooked. Seared hokkaido scallops are perfectly timed and perked up by togarashi powder, jellied lemon and yuzu-pickled onion. Desserts steal the show: cinnamon beignets are irresistible. Artless but well-meaning service. Mains $15–$21.
