Editorial Review

This friendly spot is jammed with Roncey regulars for excellent weekend brunches, when owner Brad Krawchuk—formerly of Mildred Pierce and Copper Grill—serves up masterfully prepared eggs. But the transition to dinner service is not altogether smooth. The lunch menu, augmented with a handful of affordable bistro-style mains, is a touch casual, as is the vibe. The hard-edged diner-cum-café decor cries out for linen, while diners pine for a full-fledged wine list. Still, the food is excellent: a crispy multi-grain panino delivers succulent barbecue brisket with roasted portobellos, caramelized onion and tangy monterey jack; a perfectly grilled veal chop atop a white bean and blue cheese ragoût, sweetened with riesling grape reduction, delivers lovely flavours but unevenly cooked beans. Gnocchi could use more salt but arrive firm and plump in a light sun-dried-tomato-chipotle sauce. Friendly service needs refining. Desserts are from Dufflet and Patachou.
