Greenwood - Coxwell

At the northern edge lie the colours and spices of Gerrard’s Little India, with Leslieville at the southern end. This was once a brick-making hub, and many of the slim, petite houses on its quiet, sedate side streets served as homes for workers in the area’s factories. For years, Leslieville languished and was a largely neglected area of Toronto. But the real estate frenzy of Riverdale is pushing buyers further east. The area’s industrial, down-at-the-heels past is still in evidence in parts, but it’s changing at a caffeine-fuelled pace—Queen Street East is overflowing with coffee shops, such as the brand new Red Rocket across from the TTC streetcar yards. Houses are generally on the smaller side and often semi-detached; many have gone through at least a superficial reno but may still have unfinished basements. While decent listings can be found in the $300,000s, be warned that the area’s growing popularity has resulted in many a bidding war.
