Little Portugal

Contains the traditional neighbourhoods of:
Beaconsfield Village

A decade ago, the insistently overused handle “Queen West West” hadn’t yet been coined, and few downtowners knew where—or what—Beaconsfield Village (now part of Little Portugal) was. Beaconsfield has come a long way since, with well-heeled creative types flocking in the wake of the Drake and the Gladstone at its eastern edge. While its newfound popularity has led to a plethora of restaurants, bars, shops and galleries, some fear gentrification has gone too far—condo towers planned for the area have been accused of displacing local artists and of being out of place amid the low-rise buildings. The area got its start as a railway suburb in the 1880s, and most of the homes date to that time; many of the red-brick Victorian abodes on Beaconsfield Avenue have received heritage designations from the city and start around $400,000.
