Mabel's Fables

Storybook central, this uptown bookshop is set in a two-storey building, complete with a candy-striped park bench and an old wood stove. All the bedtime classics are here, from Beatrix Potter and The Velveteen Rabbit to Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories, but there’s also a selection of mysteries and a huge array of fantasy, anchored by J. R. R. Tolkien and J. K. Rowling. The shop has sections devoted to history, science, sports, nature, reference and Canada, plus books on CD. A cozy nook located on the second floor hosts story time for toddlers, while an in-store class for adults learning to write kids’ fiction is offered through George Brown College.
