A godsend for parents, these 23 Toronto centres offer a smorgasbord of free family courses, parent workshops and drop-in activities in a variety of languages. The focus is on early learning and literacy (children can choose books from a lending library), but courses vary widely. Parents in the Infant Massage workshop learn techniques that will reduce colic symptoms and help babies fall asleep faster. Other classes, such as Healthy Kids, focus on nutritious meal ideas for the whole family.
