A year-long renovation aims to add more meeting rooms and a café to this Church Street bastion, known for its long-standing queer-positive and queer-specific family resource programs. Parents can draw on well-connected 519ers for referrals to a number of support agencies (for speech therapy or mental health issues, for example), or pop in for informal support—namely, making new connections with other families. The Family Resource Centre provides an everyday drop-in playgroup for children under six years old, as well as resources and support information for caregivers. The Queer Positive Pre-Natal Class, offered four times a year, is designed for expectant lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and transsexual parents. And Daddies and Papas 2B, a 12-week program, explores the practical, emotional, social and legal issues of gay, bisexual and transgender people planning parenthood.
