Budding Juno contenders choose from a range of lessons covering everything from acoustic guitar and drums to voice lessons to woodwinds and brass instruments. Musical styles include classical, pop and jazz. Most parents enrol little ones in private half-hour lessons to start, and then move up to group or ensemble classes. Children as young as four can take up piano or violin, but vocal training and guitar lessons begin at six years of age. The annual recital—a marathon full-day event—is a highlight for students and parents alike. Registration for private classes is ongoing; if you’re unsure your child is ready for music lessons, owner-instructor Ed Lettner suggests a one-month trial.

- Private lessons from $26 per half-hour; group classes $18 per hour.
