Babies and toddlers rock out with bells, maracas, egg shakers and cymbals during hour-long Kindermusik classes—a teaching approach with an emphasis on discovery and exploration, rather than specific musical instruction. Don’t expect standard nursery rhymes at this pan-cultural singalong: one week it’s Peruvian folk songs, the next it’s African tribal music, calypso or chanting. Suzuki-method piano instruction is offered for kids four years and older. The approach here is both laid-back and intensive (the Suzuki method relies heavily on parental involvement). Children learn an instrument by playing pieces rather than through rote technical exercises. Ages: newborn to 10 years.
