This firm highlights interesting aspects of the existing landscape that might otherwise be missed. “Our goal is for our clients to notice and understand their landscape better,” explains partner Lisa Rapoport. Thus, creativity is never in short supply with these seasoned pros: in one garden, an industrial aluminum staircase floats over a bed of foliage, carrying visitors up to an elevated dining terrace; another features a massive nine-foot-long stone and steel table, with a built-in water fountain–wine chiller, and not a single plant; yet another boasts a contemporary sculpture garden and a private outdoor reading room. Natural aspects are often contrasted with crisp, modern (and luxurious) elements, but the design always stays true to the natural environment. Clients, including garden guru Marjorie Harris, tend to be from the creative fields (think journalists, writers and artists).
