Manufactured outside Munich, this pristine kitchen furniture is austere but pleasingly arch. All the Bulthaup exteriors—floating kitchen counters, rolling-door aluminium cabinets, opaque glass wall panels—look as sleek as a country lake just frozen over. But despite the clinical names (B3, System 20), the lines are far more practical and warm than first impressions would suggest. Bulthaup designers favour slender metals and pliable veneers. Customizable furniture is displayed in a soaring, cool King East showroom, a tidy utopian vision owned by architect Antje Bulthaup, whose grandparents founded the company in 1949. You could easily spend $50,000 to $70,000, but you’ll get one precisely tailored kitchen.
