As masters of small-space solutions and high-rise model suites, Anna Simone (known to the masses from HGTV’s Designer Superstar Challenge) and Elaine Cecconi have been in business for 25 years, growing their multi-disciplinary firm to a 40-person operation based in a Little Portugal building. Here, you can get a taste for yourself of the designers’ aesthetic, which runs through the gamut of both their residential and commercial work—stretching as far away as Dubai, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. “Creating a language for a building,” as the pair likes to say, involves fleshing out a strong yet coherent design. In an industrial loft, they hung draping from the 20-foot-high ceilings to create a partition for the dining space; in the bedroom, a dramatic plank platform bed was topped with a canopy, giving it an orderly Japanese sensibility. Another notable project saw a bold all-white kitchen—monochrome drama is a signature look—with durable white Corian on the counters and cupboards, a heated concrete floor, removable floor-to-ceiling shelving, and slatted-wood sliding doors.
