A specialist in traditional family homes, Crawford reveres the past but accommodates the present, especially today’s trend for more casual living. So in addition to antiques and reproductions—for both country and city—she adds modern touches. In the end, she says, a home should look as if it belongs to the family. “I don’t like it when it looks like a showroom or a hotel.” For a recent project, Crawford made over a Muskoka cottage from top (beamed, coffered ceilings) to bottom (hardwood floors).
