Both bargain-seeking students and pros frequent this cooking supply store, which has every essential covered—you can even buy chef whites and Dansko clogs ($140). Although Nikolaou carries flatware and china, most people come for the kitchen equipment—everything from basic tongs, whisks, spatulas and stockpots to such high-end items as beechwood spoons from France ($3–$9), Peugeot pepper mills (medium-size, $45) and Mac knives from Japan. Pots and pans range from stainless steel to professional-quality copper cookware by Mauviel (small pan, $210).
