Asian furniture shops may be a dime a dozen these days, but Rumah is no colonial clone: its selection of antique imports is sprinkled with contemporary furnishings. Thus a low reclaimed-wood coffee table from Indonesia shares space with a newly constructed mangowood table in a dark finish ($525). In a similar vein, an intricately carved armoire ($2,600) contrasts nicely with a modern pedestal table in teak ($2,200). Long, flat wooden benches from Java ($995) weather well, making for great outdoor seating. Adding warmth to the store’s wheat-coloured walls are earth-toned kilim rugs (from $395), runners (from $195) and cushions ($45–$60) made in Afghanistan.
