Jalan

A fixture on Queen West for more than 15 years, Jalan stocks opulent Asian furniture—mostly from China, but also Thailand, Indonesia, Tibet and Japan—at affordable prices. Incense drifts through the store; various chests, armoires and hutches glow with rich red, green, black and orange enamels. The oldest pieces are only early 20th century—they’ve been refinished and fitted with new hardware—but even the new pieces radiate authenticity, and all the furniture is made of solid hardwood (elm and walnut from China, teak and mahogany from Indonesia). New stock arrives at least once a month, and what the small Queen Street location can’t accommodate—larger desks, dining tables and cabinets—the store’s 7,000-square-foot warehouse space can.
